The Beginning

ChipControl was established in January 2001 as a mechanical workshop carrying out service and repairs to all makes and models of vehicle. The main structure of the business is the customized tuning to Holden Commodores. Replacing the standard E-PROM or memcal (engine management chip) with a customized chip, engineered on the premises, to the exact specifications of each individual engine.

The Process 

At ChipControl we alter factory programs which use modified engine control module (ECM) and power train control module (PCM) hardware and software in combination with a laptop to achieve calibration changes while the engine is running. The ECM PCM also transmits a modified data list, which is used to display variables as changes are made. As the calibrations are made by the engine program, they are seamless with no resets or time delay problems that would normally occur with an E-PROM emulator, previously used by competitors in the industry. This unique method enables changes to be made in true real time without any time lag.

The main advantages of using a real time program as apposed to the stand-alone non real time emulator are as follows:

- Many more changes are made in the same time period.
- Vehicle behaviour can be observed as variables are changed.

The engine operation of real time programs remains unchanged so the ECM or PCM behaviour is the same as a factory program.
After the program is developed, it is then transferred from the development board/PCM directly to the E-PROM or memcal, and will run identically to the changes made. This enables rapid and accurate development and also gives results with confidence to enhance the performance of the vehicle for improved drivability.

Other improvements include:

- Improved emission control
- Fuel efficiency
- Reduced wear and tear

This method is one of many effective procedures used by ChipControl, which gives us a competitive edge over others in the industry. We also supply and fit performance exhaust system to all the late model Commodores ranging from, VN-VE, V6 & V8, Generation 3 Monaro & Ute's to improve power and fuel efficiency.

Our in-house Manufacturing department enables us to produce products that would not normally be available in the market place. This aids in the ability to custom fabricate to your needs.
